The Trusty Septic Tank
The Trusty Septic Tank
Anyone who leaves out in the country is very familiar with the septic tank. The septic tank is your plumbing system. How does a septic tank work? Well, essentially you have the plumbing run from your house to the septic tank through a large PVC pipe. Depending on the size of your home you may have to have two septic tanks that are connected through the same pipe system. On the septic tank there is an inlet where the waste goes in, and an outlet that allows for the excess waste to flow out so that the septic tank does not overflow. This out-going waste travels down another PVC pipe that has holes in to allow the liquid waste to escape into the earth, and as such, provide nutrients for the soil. In order to help break down the larger waste, you will add a bacteria that actually eats down the large waste.
How to Install a Septic Tank
The septic tank system that will work for you for years with no issues, and is a must for anyone who intends to build a house out in the country. How does one install this system? It is actually very easy. The septic tank is typically a concrete basin with two holes and a lid. So, to install it just dig a trench around two feet deep and one foot wide to accommodate your PVC piping leading roughly 30 feet away from your home. Dig a ditch around six feet across and six feet deep. After that, did another trench on the other side of your ditch that mimics your first trench to hold the overflow PVC pipe. Now just set the tank inside the ditch. The install your PVC pipe into the trenches and connect the pipes to the septic tank. Cover the tank and the pipes and you are done.
