Construction Theme Parks

Construction Theme Parks
There is no doubt about it, at some point in your childhood, you loved and played with construction toys. Big yellow trucks, plastic hammers and screwdrivers, or even a mini excavator you can ride on, we loved them all. The best part as a child was driving by an actual construction site and seeing enormous machinery ripping into the earth.
Well, believe it or not, there are construction site theme parks for your child and YOU to operate heavy machinery all on your own.Two places come to mind that is safe for children and adults. Diggerland USA in West Berlin, NJ and Dig This in Las Vegas, NV are just a couple of theme parks in the U.S. that make fantasies come true. Here is a closer look at these unique hands-on amusement parks that put kids and adults in the driver’s seat.

Diggerland USA

The company first opened its site to the public on June 14th, 2014 in West Berlin, NJ with a few Diggerland locations in the United Kingdom. The 14-acre site also features 25 separate attractions. Most of the equipment and machinery are modified to accommodate little tots. “Each machine has undergone advanced engineering modifications which make them safe for the public, allowing children as small as 36 inches to operate with little to no instruction,” it says on the site. Families can safely drive, ride and operate forklifts, backhoes, tractors, dump trucks and excavators modified for use on a course or made stationary by design. All I know is it all sounds like fun. Other than basic theme park rules, there is one rule the park enforces all visitors to follow; they ask that visitors avoid raising the articulated excavator arms above the cabins of their 7-ton machines. It is not just about fun, but about safety too.
The park has several attractions for everyone to enjoy after digging in the dirt. The Dig-A-Round is Diggerland's version of a carousel in which riders sit in a scoop-shaped seat, the 3.5-ton Big Diggers and 7-ton Giant Diggers, and there is the Mini Diggers which are set up like carnival games. The Sky Shuttle takes riders 50 feet in the air for a bird's-eye view of the park, and the Ground Shuttle takes riders on a bumpy off-road ride. Spin Dizzy is the main attraction which is designed for those hard-core adrenaline junkies. The U.K. parks host monthly digger races open to amateur drivers as well as appearances by the Dancing Diggers stunt team.

Dig This Las Vegas

Dig This came to be in in Las Vegas in 2011 although owner Ed Mumm started a pilot program in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in 2005. But unlike most parks, this particular one caters to adults.
The idea came to Mumm when he rented an excavator while building his home. "After being on that machine, I thought, 'Wow, this is so much fun,' and then it occurred to me, 'Well, if I'm having so much fun, imagine the amount of people that don't get the opportunity to do this sort of thing.' And from there, Dig This was born," he says.
Visitors go through a  safety and equipment orientation before climbing into any of the equipment. Employees take no chances at Dig This, which is a good thing — owner Ed Mumm says he has more than $1 million invested. Dig This charges between $200 and $750, and while it may seem pricey, most people are willing to shell out just as much to gamble or take a helicopter ride.
There are just as many women interested in playing in the dirt as men. Dig This offers a package that caters to the ladies. The Excavate and Exfoliate package lets you spend a half-day at the park and then is followed by a spa treatment at the Trump Las Vegas Hotel. There is something for everyone.
